          Company Background

          Marina Island Venture Capital Sdn Bhd (MIVC) is an associated company of Marina Island Group of Companies (MIG). MIVC is a privately owned company that was incorporated to carry out business to develop, operate, manage and maintain seaport, terminal, jetty, marina and shipyard. MIVC also carries out businesses related to tourism property development and operations.

          Since 2012, MIVC has been appointed by Johor Port Authority (JPA) to manage, maintain and enhance the capital development of Tanjung Belungkor Ferry Terminal and to facilitate JPA in providing adequate and efficient port services and facilities for all port users at the terminal.


          History

          Tg Belungkor Ferry Terminal (TBFT) was developed back in the 1990s to encourage tourism development at Desaru, Johor. The terminal is built on a 7 acre land belonging to Kejora/Johor Port Authourity with a cost of MYR 60 million (inclusive of Changi Ferry Terminal). With the development of the terminals a third gateway in/out of Singapore via Desaru is created and the first ferry service commenced on the 8th of May 1993.

          The terminal was officially launched on the 11th September 1993 by Datuk Seri Ling Liong Sik, Transport Minister back then. The management of the terminal has been contracted to MIVC since 15th June 2012. Prior to that, Johor Port Authority was responsible for the overall management of the terminal.

          • To leverage on existing Economic Transformation Program within the region and global connectivity via Singapore Changi International and Cargo Airport.
          • To develop waterfront township strategies leveraging on the Ferry Terminal and Cruise Port Logistic Hub with other infrastructure connectivity.
          • To provide the most economical in terms of operational and business cost for other economic development leaders from other sectors.

          Role of Operators

          • To manage the overall operations of the terminal
          • To establish and manage ferry operations to Singapore and Indonesia
          • To manage the safety and security of the terminal
          • To enforce the rules of “Undang-Undang Kecil Pelabuhan”
          • To adhere to the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code
          • To provide the necessary facilities and infrastructure for terminal operations
          • To upkeep and maintain all facilities and infrastructures
          • To ensure reliability of Changi – Belungkor ferry route
          • To establish more international ferry routes
          • To reinstate RORO ferry service

          Board of Directors

          Ding Ju Hang

          Ding Ju Hang acquired and possesses in-depth study and research experience in waterfront master planning, architectural and interior design disciplines from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. He had passion over waterfront lifestyles development and enjoys water related activities.

          Over the last 10 years, he has conducted many case studies and carried out extensive research in tourism-related architecture, fostered by his passion for architecture and business. His research focus was predominantly on marinas and waterfront development in Australia, Japan, Singapore, US, Dubai, Netherlands and Malaysia.

          Ding is a Youth Leader member of Urban Land Institute (ULI), an organization provides leadership in the responsible use of land and in creating and sustaining thriving communities worldwide. ULI is an independent global nonprofit supported by members representing the entire spectrum of real estate development and land use disciplines. 

          Ding plays the key role of strategic macro planning in the overall project ranging from project feasibility, uncommon technical problem solving, social and political needs.   

          Alex Diong

          Alex Diong has over 18 years of strategic business management, key business development and special project management experience and has worked on numerous projects with well-known organization such as Shell, Petronas, Exxon Mobil, BASF and Bluescope Steel to name a few. He has also worked with multinational organizations which include Hilti and Lafarge-Holcim.

          Alex Diong holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration from University of Leicester and also a Bachelors Degree with Honors from University of Sheffield in Mechanical Engineering. As a fully qualified Project Management Professional (PMP), Alex Diong believes in robust and sound project management methodology and approach to ensure right strategies are implemented and things get done.

          Alex Diong also believes in sustainable development. As a certified Green Building Index Malaysia practitioner, Alex Diong looks for ways on how development and construction can be friendlier to the environment and operations of building can be more efficient throughout its lifecycle by capitalizing on natural resources.

          Alex plays the key role of project planning and execution, key liaison between Government and the group on tourism development, waterfront property development, and project development, planning and implementation.
